Anyone can participate in environmental protection – in fact, you are the best protector of your own neighborhood. Deep in Qinghai Province, under the shadows of tall mountains, and enveloped by centuries of history and tradition, local people are watching as the glacial ice melts and grasses dry on account of climate change.

GEI is helping the local people to measure and track these changes to the environment. From measuring pH and heavy metals in the water quality, to noting areas prone to littering, and even altering authorities to fires or severe dryness, we’re helping these locals to get involved in protecting their environment through Citizen Science methodology. In fact, GEI has designed a mobile phone application that has a simple interface for the Qinghai locals to plug in their environmental findings; the data then is immediately shared with those that have access to the data cloud.

GEI is raising money to buy the equipment needed to expand participation in science and environmental protection. We plan to buy smart phones, radios, telescopes and water monitoring toolkits as well as gear to protect the locals as they withstand the plateau’s harsh weather. Please give generously as we support scientific environmental protection throughout Qinghai!

Support the Emucuo Craftsmen

The colors of Sanjiangyuan leave a lasting impression. Inspiring artists, musicians, politicians and tourists, the blues of the sky and water against the greens, browns and grays of the mountains and earth are best captured by the souls native to the magical landscape.

Over the past three years of GEI’s work in Qinghai Province, the environment has altered account of climate change and economic pressures have ushered in new plans for development. Despite these shifts, the local, Tibetan culture remains as rich as ever – but also unprecedentedly threatened. Handicraft cooperatives have been set up in local Sanjiangyuan villages to give locals a means for steady employment that celebrates their traditional heritage, is environmentally sustainable and is welcomes the work of all people in the community, including women and those living with physical or mental handicaps.

GEI is raising money to help support these Qinghai handicraft cooperatives. Donations will buy materials like cloth and thread, as well as support trainings by professional designers, whom help advise the locals how to make high-quality, professional and authentic products. Please give generously to support art and preserve the traditions of these local villages.
